Thorns took to the court with an early match against Kingfishers. With Issy Axton opening play, Thorns showed they meant business, with Emily Trotman and Samantha Smith on target they began to notch up the goals. Kingfishers were not deterred by Thorns’ play and were quick to benefit from turnovers and finished the first quarter with a two-goal lead.
The second quarter saw Ella Kippax take to GS and Jo Stimpy to WD, suring up the defence alongside Millie Oaten and Kat Millard. With all players beginning to link well and the goals continuing to hit their target, Thorns held on to Kingfishers’ tails and maintained the two-goal difference at half time. The third quarter saw Mo take to centre and Jamie Harvey to WA, and with Sam back on as GS Thorns began to step up to the challenge and with lots of tips and turnovers from Kat and Millie and tight defending from Jo, the home side closed the gap to 28-29. The final quarter saw Emily take to centre and Mo to WA. With lots of loud support on the sideline Thorns continued to calmly display their versatility and clip Kingfishers’ a wings the young Tor side inched ahead. The whole side continued to work to the final whistle, smashing the final fifteen with 16 goals to the visitors’ 8. Thorns sealed their victory with a final score of 44-37. Players’ player went to Jamie and Jo and opposition player went to Emily. A really impressive netballing display from the whole squad and a well-deserved first win of the season.
Abbey took on local rivals Swan today in rather damp and drizzly conditions. A strong start for Abbey resulted in an early first quarter lead of 12-5 this was due to some great defensive pressure from Ruth Lomas and Tamzyn Chidley resulting in numerous turnovers. This play continued into the second quarter with Kelly-marie Simpson and Claire Dickens dominating the circle and converting on the turnovers with extremely accurate shooting. Half time score Abbey still leading 22-14. The defence were trying to block Claire and her shit hot shooting out of the circle so Claire and Kelly switched shooting positions within the circle at half time. This created more space on court as Claire was being doubled on in the circle. Sam Doble, myself and Jordan Davies worked really well to bring the ball up court with a lot less pressure on us and some great feeds into the circle resulted in the final score of 42-34. Player of the match from both teams went to Claire Dickens who was on fire! Well played everyone. Let’s all go down to VicFest and celebrate our win xx
Thorns faced a very experienced Luna today. With the absence of our Captain SamI had some very big shoes to fill! Fresh faced (although most a little tired from the first week back at school) we took to the court hoping to tire Luna out! In the first quarter we fought hard, taking 8 goals to Luna’s 17 we knew we were in for a tough game! With Gabi coming off for the 2nd quarter and Jamie-lea coming on court we continued to battle a tough Luna.
The 3rd quarter saw Emily intercepting loose balls and intercepting left right and CENTRE (see what I did there?)
In the last quarter we fought even harder nearly going goal for goal but unfortunately finishing 56-30 to Luna.
Overall with fabulous centre court play, great accurate shooting from Kat and Ellaand brilliant defence from Millie the score really doesn’t show how hard Thorns fought and how tired we were!
I’m sure I’ve missed some key parts of the game so apologies !! POM went to Emily from us!!! (We didn’t get one from Luna as they disappeared very quickly!)

With the full squad back in action, Chalice faced Emeralds at home on Saturday. With a strong and less shaky start in the first quarter compared to last week, Chalice worked hard with some great feeds from Emma C and Maisey WA into Sam GA and Holly GS , we saw the first quarter end with Chalice up by 1 goal, 8-7.
No changes made in the second quarter and great play continued across the whole court, some brilliant stretches from Claire and Lindsay and support from Tiana as always. UNTIL the unexpected happened, Lindsay went down, managed to drag herself off the court and head to A&E. Tiana stepped up to GD, the versatile Emma Jones went to WD and Georgia came on at C. Brilliant shooting from both Sam and Holly allowed Chalice to gain a better lead of 18-12 allowing Emeralds to score only 5.
With Emeralds chasing our tails in the third quarter, we saw Georgia and Maisey working the triangles and feeds into Sam and Holly. With Emma, Tiana and Claire intercepting and defending we ended the quarter 23-19.
With a slight change for the fourth and final quarter, we saw Emma move to GA, Tiana back at WD and Lucy Baker come on at GD. Our best quarter, tight defence and strong interceptions from both Lucy and Claire. Shooting on point from both Holly and Emma we had a win of 37-24. POTM went to Emma/Claire and from the other team went to Emma
